Which of your shifts is the holiday?

Your client's business day runs overnight in the Philippines. For an East Coast client, their Monday 9 AM to 5 PM is about 9 PM Monday to 5 AM Tuesday in the Philippines in summer, one hour later in winter. West Coast clients start about 3 hours later.

So a Canadian holiday on a Monday usually means your shift that starts Monday night is the one that's off.

Is it paid?

Canadian holidays aren't Philippine holidays, so the Labor Code doesn't add a premium for them. Whether a client holiday is a paid day off, and what you get if you work it, depends on your contract or company policy. Many accounts give it as a paid day off.

When it's also a Philippine holiday, like New Year's Day and Good Friday, the Philippine rules apply: at least 200% on a regular holiday if you're a covered employee and you work.
